No Cask Beer at Olympics
News: April 2012
There will be no cask-conditioned beer on sale at any of this year’s Olympic venues as a result of Heineken’s sponsorship of the Games, reports Good Beer Guide editor Roger Protz. On his Protz on Beer website, Protz reveals that Heineken lager will be the only branded beer on sale in places such as the Olympic Stadium, the aquatic centre in Weymouth and other London venues including Lord’s cricket ground, where archery is scheduled. Marston’s, an official sponsor of the England cricket team, will see its handpumps removed from Lord’s for the duration of the Games. Joining Heineken on the bar will be keg John Smith’s Smooth and Strongbow cider, but neither product will be named and no point of sale material will be displayed. |
