Brakspear Pubs Go Tax Free
News: February 2012
Pubs in Henley-on-Thames owned by the Brakspear pub group are to sell beer at tax-free prices for one day. On 28 February, ten pubs will be selling Brakspear Bitter, Kronenbourg and Foster’s at £1.30 off the normal prices of £3.10–3.30 a pint, in a bid to highlight the amount of taxation taken by the Government from beer. The £1.30 figure is Brakspear’s estimate of duty, VAT and other taxes, including employment tax and business rates, that the production and retail of beer generates. The company hopes the drinkers of Henley will also sign a petition calling for a more pub-friendly tax regime. |
