UK Beer Sales Still on the Slide
News: January 2012
The latest figures released by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) in its quarterly Beer Barometer report reveal that sales of beer in the UK fell by 1.4% compared with the same period (October to December) last year. Sales of beer in pubs fell by 1.1%, leading the BBPA to renew its argument that the Government should change course and not continue with the industry-penalising, above-inflation duty increases it has imposed in recent years. Over the year 2011 as a whole, beer sales in pubs dropped by 3.4% and off-trade sales dipped by 3.7%. The BBPA estimates that 9,000 jobs in the sector were lost during the same period. |
