Hydes on the Move
News: January 2012
Manchester brewer Hydes is to leave its current Queens Brewery and move to new premises. The move will involve an investment of £2 million but will lead to some job losses. The current brewhouse in Moss Side is more than 150 years old and the company says that brewing there is no longer sustainable, given today’s demands for efficient beer production and distribution. The new premises -– to be selected from a number of already-identified sites – should be open by the end of the year and will specialize in cask ale production. Hydes has also decided to leave the free trade market and is to sell its free trade interests to Blackburn brewer Daniel Thwaites. Some staff members will move to Thwaites with the business. |
