Two versions of a white stout have been announced on the same day.

First Durham Brewery declared it had released a 7.2% beer with that name, with the ‘stout’ part reflecting its strength rather than the dark colour with which stout has become associated in recent times. The beer features American Columbus hops.

Later Brewdog tweeted that the next beer in its Abstrakt bottle-conditioned series is to be a white imperial stout. The beer should be on sale by the time the company’s new pub in Camden, London, opens in few weeks’ time.
