Pub Beer Sales Continue to Fall
News: October 2011
The latest figures compiled by the British Beer & Pub Association for its Quarterly Beer Barometer reveal that, although beer sales overall rose in the last quarter, sales in pubs continued to decline. Supermarkets and other off-trade outlets posted a 9.1% rise in beer sales, over the July to September period. However, less beer was sold in pubs, with figures down 4.3%. The BBPA pins the blame on the continued decline on high taxation keeping customers away from pubs, stating that British drinkers now pay 40% of all beer taxes collected in the European Union. |
