Ridley Family Back in Brewing
News: September 2011
Following the sale and closure of Ridley’s brewery, near Chelmsford, Essex, in 2005, the family is back in brewing. Nelion Ridley, previously head of marketing at the defunct brewery, has established a new brewery at The Compasses Inn, a former Ridley’s pub at Littley Green, near Felsted, Essex. Bishop Nick brewery takes its name from the most famous ancestor of the family, Bishop Nicholas Ridley, who was burnt at the stake by Queen Mary in 1555 for his religious beliefs. Three beers are currently available from the new enterprise: Ridley’s Rite (3.6%), Heresy, a golden ale (4%) and 1555, a special bitter (4.3%). |
