The ribbon has been cut to signal the start of operations at Welbeck Abbey Brewery, near Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

The company, part owned by Kelham Island Brewery in Sheffield, joins a farm shop and a gallery on the estate of Welbeck Abbey, a country house with religious origins in the 12th century.

Claire Monk, a Kelham-trained brewer, has been appointed head brewer. Her first beer, called simply First Brew, is a 4.3% amber ale.
