White Shield Brewer to Retire
News: May 2011
Molson Coors has announced the retirement of Steve Wellington, head brewer at the William Worthington’s Brewery in Burton-on-Trent. Long-serving Wellington joined Bass in 1965 and, after a period of work in other areas of the brewing industry, rejoined the company in 1994 to run the White Shield Brewery at the Bass Museum in Burton. There he specialized in re-creating ‘lost’ beers from the Bass empire, such as Worthington E, Bass No. 1 Barley Wine and P2 Stout, as well as the iconic bottle-conditioned beer, Worthington’s White Shield. In 2010, Wellington took charge of the brand new William Worthington’s Brewery on the same site but is now looking forward to retirement later this summer. Molson Coors is currently looking to recruit a brewer to take over Wellington’s role. |
