The latest figures from the British Beer and Pubs Association (BBPA) reveal that beer sales in the UK declined by 3.8% in the first quarter of 2011 from sales in the same period last year.

The BBPA’s Quarterly Beer Barometer shows the same rate of decline in both pub and off trades, at 3.8% each, although the pub decline is the slowest since 2005.

The figures were compiled before the Budget’s 7.2% duty rise.
