A survey by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) has found that 25 pubs are closing in the UK every week.

The figure is down from a high of 40 pubs a week a year ago, but this still means 1,300 pubs closed last year. All parts of the country are affected, but London and the North West are losing more pubs than most.

The BBPA estimates that closures on this scale result in the loss of 13,000 jobs and is calling on the Government to act in the forthcoming Budget to address the issue by freezing tax on beer, instead of raising the tax by 7% as is currently planned.
