Sales of UK beer to the rest of the world climbed sharply last year, according to Government statistics.

In 2010, British brewers exported 6,797,422 hl of beer, compared with 5,486,368 hl the year before – a remarkable 24% increase, or 230 million extra pints. The total value of British beer exports now tops £544 million.

Reporting the positive figures, the British Beer and Pub Association has called on the Government not to jeopardise the British brewing industry by increasing beer duty in the forthcoming Budget.
