Budvar Brings Yeast Beer to Britain
News: November 2010
Drinkers who have been unable to make the journey to the Czech Republic to taste unfiltered lager now have a chance to do so closer to home, courtesy of Budweiser Budvar. Budvar is now importing its living yeast beer to the UK. Like cask ale, the beer has a short shelf-life, demands high standards of hygiene and needs to settle over a period of hours before serving so only selected outlets will be allowed to sell the beer. The first pubs and bars are all in London but Budvar hopes to break out of the capital in due course. The 5% ABV beer is essentially the same brew as regular Budweiser Budvar, except that live yeast, collected during the most intense period of fermentation, is added back after the beer has been filtered. |
