Duvel Takes Over De Koninck
News: November 2010
Belgian brewer De Koninck has been acquired by its compatriot Duvel-Moortgat. The Antwerp brewery’s world-famous 5% amber ale will now join the likes of Duvel, Liefmans and Achouffe in the Duvel-Moortgat portfolio. De Koninck has been in production since 1833. The Van den Bogaert and Van Bauwel families who owned the business declared that the decision to sell came partly from the company’s small size and consequent ‘lack of commercial strength and distribution channels’, factors reflected in declining sales in the past decade. |
