Truman’s, a name once synonymous with brewing in the East End of London, has returned to the bar.

The brewery name has been revived by two old university friends who have been inspired by working in the former Truman's premises and drinking in pubs that once belonged to the Truman's estate.

Their first beer, the cask-conditioned Truman's Runner (ABV 4%), is based on recipes discovered in the Truman's brewing books, now housed in the London Metropolitan Archives.

Produced using Maris Otter pale malt, chocolate malt, dark crystal malt, crystal rye and Golding, Fuggle and Styrian Golding hops, the beer is being brewed currently at Nethergate Brewery in Essex, although partners James Morgan and Michael-George Hemus aim to open their own east London brewery in due course.
