Marston’s Pioneers Real Ale on a Train
News: June 2010
Burton brewer Marston’s has taken to the railways in a bid to show the versatility of its new ‘fastcask’ system of producing cask-conditioned ale. Fast Cask was launched in March, when Marston’s revealed the technology that makes cask beer easy to store and serve even in the most difficult circumstances. Essentially, the yeast remaining in the cask to condition the beer is in bead form, which allows the beer to settle and ‘drop bright’ sooner than conventional cask beer containing regular yeast. On 9 June, in a stunt organised to jointly promote the Taste of Birmingham exhibition in July, Marston’s took the opportunity to offer free samples of its EPA to commuters on the 18.33 Chiltern Railways London Marylebone to Birmingham New Street rail service, declaring that serving cask ale on a train – with its motion and stop-start progress – before has not been possible. |
