News: May 2010

Sales of beer in UK pubs fell by 8.8% – equivalent to nearly 7 million pints – in the first three months of 2010, compared to sales for the same period last year.

The data forms part of the British Beer & Pub Association’s quarterly Beer Barometer report, which tracks the drink’s performance. The Association attributes the substantial fall partly to the bad weather in January which saw snow and ice prevent customers reaching pubs.

Taking into account other beer sales, the total figure for the period was down 5.1%.
