News: March 2010

Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling has used this year’s Budget statement to confirm that the already-announced hike in beer duty will go ahead.

From midnight on Sunday, 4 April, duty rises by 2% above the prevailing inflation rate. This amounts to around 2p on a pint of beer, but is likely to result in prices in pubs rising by around 10p a pint, once VAT and other costs are factored in.

The 2% above-inflation increment has also been extended until 2013.
