CAMRA to Appeal OFT Ruling
News: December 2009
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is to appeal against the decision by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to reject its ‘super complaint’ about anti-competitive practices in the UK pub market.
In October, the OFT responded to CAMRA’s submission by declaring that it had ‘not found evidence that supply ties are resulting in competition problems that are having an adverse impact on consumers.’ It also added that it did ‘not consider that supply ties contribute to higher prices or prevent pubs offering a wide choice to consumers.’
Now CAMRA is to challenge that verdict through a referral to the Competition Appeals Tribunal and is asking for consumers to make donations to help fund the move.
