Carlsberg UK has released a new cask-conditioned ale under the Tetley name for the run-up to Christmas.

Northern Cracker (ABV 4.3%) is a dark ale featuring Northdown hops. It is said to have a rich, nutty and vanilla character. The beer is brewed at Tetley's in Leeds, a brewery that Carlsberg intends to close in 2011.

It appears that, with the launch of the beer, Carlsberg is stepping up its campaign to shore up the Tetley brand prior to the closure, which is facing strong local opposition.
