Hot on the heels of the unveiling of a new bottling line at Daniel Thwaites in Lancashire, St Austell Brewery has now cut the ribbon on its own bottling facility.

The new bottling plant underscores the Cornish brewers commitment to bottled beer, with £750,000 invested. This reflects the increased demand for award-winning ales such as Tribute, Admiral’s Ale and Proper Job, and initially will allow St Austell to fill up to 100,000 bottles a week.

The project has been supported by an £180,000 investment by the South West Regional Development Agency through its Grant for Business Investment programme and has helped secure 29 jobs, created five new jobs and brought significant environmental benefits to the brewery’s operations.

By bottling the beers in house, thousands of ‘beer miles’ will now be saved per year, as previously products brewed at St Austell were shipped to other breweries (including Thwaites) for bottling. Now St Austell is looking to bottle for other local brewers to save them the same expensive and environmentally-damaging packaging experience.
