News: September 2009

Edinburgh’s Innis & Gunn Brewing Company has announced that Rum Cask is joining its range of beers as a permanent bottling.

The first supply of the beer arrived in Waitrose on Monday, 7 September (priced at £1.99), and will be followed by supplies into Sainsbury’s from the end of September.

Innis & Gunn Rum Cask (7.4% ABV) was created as a limited-edition beer, only available in small numbers in the UK and Canada markets, but consumer demand has seen bottling increased to make it a regular feature.

Innis and Gunn is a pioneer of oak aging beer and Rum Cask shares its maturation period equally between new American oak casks and rum casks that are packed with flavours after years maturing the spirit. The result, according to owner-brewer Dougal Sharp, is a warm and rich beer bursting with fruit and lively spiciness.

‘Innis & Gunn Rum Cask has such intense flavours of rum, spice and fruit that it makes a great accompaniment to many puddings including Tarte Tatin and Sticky Toffee pudding,’ he added. ‘It is delicious with rich venison stews and strong cheeses but is equally wonderful savoured on its own.’
